Born in Kamalapur, Warangal district in Telangana State, India, on 06/09/1943. Schooled in Zilla Parishad High School in his birthplace. Graduated from Nizam College, Osmania University, Hyderabad (Telangana), 1966. Obtained a postgraduate degree in journalism from Osmania University, Hyderabad, 1967: Topped the university, was awarded the Shoebullah Khan Gold Medal. Recipient of an Honoris Causa (Honorary Doctorate) from the Kakatiya University of Warangal in 1998 for his contribution to journalism. He has been a journalist since 1968. Began career on The Times of India as a Reporter in Ahmedabad in 1968. Has worked as a Summer Scholar on The Sunday Times of London in 1975, and as a Guest Writer on The Boston Globe in Boston (USA) in 1978. Was Executive Editor and Senior Editor of India Today newsmagazine (1979-84). Interviewed scores of Presidents, Prime Ministers, Kings and other dignitaries/celebrities, such as
Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, among others. Authored “NTR: A Biography” in 1983. Globe-trotting is one of his hobbies. He has travelled in 65 countries across all continents.
